About intonation that puts emotion into words.
Up to here, we have learnt Japanese accent, and the next is intonation. This refers to pronunciation of phrases and conversations, specifically rise and fall of voice pitch ↑↓ when speaking. In Japanese, intonation is used to convey speaker's intent or emotion. Nepali also has rich intonation, so you will quickly grasp characteristics of Japanese intonation.Let's get started!
For example, there is a rule that when asking someone a question, it add का at the end of phrase. When speaking, raising pitch of का sound creates a question phrases, while falling pitch of का sound expressing agreement or emotion.
When expressing the Nepali phrase यो के हो in Japanese, कोरेवा नान्देसु का ↑ by raising end like this, it becomes a question. Another one, Nepali phrase हो र in Japanese, सो- देसु का ↑ in this way, raising end also makes it a question phrases. Conversely सो- देसु का ↓ by falling end like this, expressing interjections or acknowledgement. Also, question खाना खानु हुन्छ / गोहान् ताबेमासु का ↑ answering खान्छु / ताबेरू ↓ like this, you can convey own will to others.
Additionally, even if omit का and raising end makes it a question phrases. It's exactly same as Nepali.
